I am a Sagittarius.  This means that if it is work related, I can do it.  I have decided to make polyphasic sleep part of my job description as High Priestess of Pagan House.  I have found that this simple mental trick makes it easier for me to stick to the schedule!  This morning, I overslept a bit (aka late for work), and then I overslept again at my first of four nap (late back from lunch).  My second of four nap went better, I went on time and came back on time, but I mostly just lay there thinking.  I’m already noticing that I have more drive and focus, with this new mind set.  I have a 6 month break from working for others, so there is plenty of time for me to get this polyphasic thing down.  The hardest part is figuring out the best placement of naps.  I prefer four 15 minute naps to three 20 minute naps.  I find I get more rest that way.  I have not yet been able to keep the schedule for longer than three days.  Again, it is difficult to balance the requirements of the world with this new lifestyle.  My husband found a polyphasic sleeper’s alarm clock online.  We intend to purchase it as soon as possible.  I am a very sound sleeper (once I’m down), and have had trouble in the past with alarms that are too quiet.  I also have trouble keeping my cats off anything with a snooze bar.  Bless their rotten little hearts!  They just have to walk across it and turn it off/snooze it once too often.  And try finding an alarm clock WITHOUT an easy-to-slap snooze bar.  I have one, and although I love it, it scares me to death when it goes off.  Not exactly the way I want to start my day.  Anyway, I’m going to be revising my nap schedule to take the classes I’m teaching into account.

I teach introductory Paganism and Witchcraft to anyone interested.  I currently have three classes starting in February;  A Year-and-a-Day class (goes from 1st degree to 3rd degree in one year), a Piresthood training class (equiv. to 4th degree) and a Shamanism class (totally separate from the other two).  The Year-and-a-Day class is three hours long and starts at 1pm.  So does my nap.  Gotta change that.  The others are fine, I think.

The polyphasic sleep is excellent for class preparation.  At 4:30 in the morning, no one is up, and I can sit and stare and write to my heart’s content.  After nap one of four, the rest of the house is waking up, and I can do noisy things like hang pictures and run the vacuum (I’m still unpacking from the last move).  Well, I’m pretty fired up about class, so I’m gonna get back to my syllabus and class lecture notes.  I’ve been considering putting the class online, so if you are interested, why don’t you let me know.  That way I can see how quickly I should be moving on it.
